V
olunteer activities are focal to
CBT's mission as they provide the high-school students, college students, and
young professionals a venue in which to interact and contribute to the
community. CBT tries to coordinate these events to take place outside and to
be around the site at which the tutoring takes place.
The first such event,
on May 13, 2006, saw volunteers, students, and CBT board members plant a new
flowerbed, collect trash, and otherwise beautified Chase Park, CBT's flagship
site. CBT was at it again in the SPring of 2007. Soliciting donations from local garden and hardware stores, CBT volunteers descended onto Chase Park with the mission of topping last year's effort. The objective was achieved, check out some pictures of the effort!
On December 15th, 2007 CBT capped off a very successful tutoring program with a volunteer day that including our high-school tutors, college liaisons, and board members. We visited Alternatives, located at 4700 N. Broadway, and helped paint some walls and prepared a mailing. It was an excellent event and we enjoyed the opportunity to help another very deserving NFP.
Other events have included
the Family Fun Fest at Chase Park, which took place on Friday, July 27. The Family Fun Fest included a wide
variety of family oriented activities to raise money for a new playground,
including a movie in the park, arts and crafts, games, and pony rides. Check out pictures from the event!
Future activities may
include: volunteering at a food shelter, passing out water at the Chicago
Marathon, painting a mural, visiting a nursing home, and participating in
get-out-the-vote efforts. CBT is always interested in partnering with other
not for profit organizations dedicated to strengthening the community or
providing a service to the needy. If you would like to partner with CBT
