Volunteer with us for The Raven!

Do you, like us, think it is important to dedicate some of your time and energy to strengthening the community in which you live? CBT offers a variety of ways for you to get involved. If any of the below options interest you please contact us at playarole@cbtutors.org.

Tutor – Strengthen your community by tutoring students, 3rd-10th grade. Volunteer once a week for an eleven week period from 4:30-6:00pm at any of CBT’s four Tutoring Sites. Work one-on-one with the same student each week helping to improve the student’s academic achievement and community awareness through character development.

Site Coordinator – Manage one of CBT’s tutoring sites. Be the main point person for all volunteers and students at the site. Help recruit tutors and assist in overseeing all tutoring activities as well as planning the volunteer activity.

Activity Leader – Share a specific skill with a group of high school and grade school students one time or once a month. An example would be teaching the young students how to play chess, build kite or how to knit (Your imagination is your only limit). Activities would need to be 30-45 minutes long and engaging for groups of high school and grade school students.

Volunteer Activity Participant– Attend and or help plan a CBT site volunteer activity. Activities involve high school tutors, college students and young professionals and focus on strengthening the community. They can range from beautifying a public space through picking up trash and planting flowers to going to an animal shelter to play with the animals. An informal picnic/get to know you session follows the events so you have a chance to chat with people from different age groups.

Board Member — Attend monthly board meetings. Assist in the growth and development of CBT. Your role as a board member can be tailored to your interests and areas of expertise.

· Volunteer Recruitment: Assist CBT in recruiting qualified High School and College-aged tutors.
· Development: Research grant opportunities and write grants and apply for applicable funding.
· Event Planning: Plan fundraising events to help raise money and awareness.
· Education Development: Assist in writing lesson plans and tutoring activities.
· Finance Committee: Assist in the financial management of the organization.
· Marketing: Assist with getting the word out about CBT.

CBT's semi-annual bar fundraiser at Fizz on Lincoln saw two lucky attendees each walk away with two front row tickets to a Bull's game. The tickets were generously donated by a board member's employer and over 50 people enjoyed the festivities.
